How to Maximize and Monetize Your Business

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

Business Is Like Rome

I often like to dream of the ancient ruins in Rome. Personally, I derive great inspiration from them. Sure, they might not look like much now, but in their day they were feats of engineering that people would travel for weeks to see. And despite centuries passing and these great buildings toppling over, we are still drawn to visit them today. Why? Because of their beauty. Their resilience. Their strength. They’ve seen the rise and fall of empires, and yet they stand firm and tall. These pillars are almost unrecognizable from where they began, but the storms they have weathered make them all the more beautiful to behold.

Running a successfully optimized business is much like the pillars of ancient Rome. Creating a lasting and beautiful business that will stand the test of time requires proper use of resources, careful planning, and long term strength.

Think Local, Dream Global

Your business is being launched during an incredible time in history. Even the smallest of business now has the ability to be a global player. With online commerce, business can be conducted and goods can be exchanged anywhere on the planet. However, while it is great to dream of a global market, it is important to also remember your local environment. Successful businesses are ones that are aware of their immediate surrounding and have the support of their neighbors.

Research, research, research

Research everything. Research your competitors, research new trends in the industry, research new methods, research keywords, research pricing. Never stop researching. (And more important than researching is the ability to adapt to and utilize that research.)

Secure a strong domain name

A business today isn’t properly optimized for the world if it’s SEO isn’t optimized. In order to get on the path to SEO and Google optimization, you must first have a strong domain name. Research available names and research keywords that you can include. Do. Not. Skip. This. Step.

Encourage reviews and always respond

Studies have shown repeatedly that consumers are more likely to give their business to a company that their friend has recommended. Newer studies have shown that websites such as Yelp or Angie’s List are just as highly coveted among consumers. Encourage clients to write review or give testimonials, and always respond when they do. This will not only boost your SEO, but it will demonstrate to your current customer that you value their feedback and show potential customers that you’re a caring and responsive company.

Give back

This is Key. Whenever possible, give back. Whether that is donating your time or product to local charities or allowing your employees the opportunity to volunteer on company time. Successful businesses are part of a global community, and part of being in that community is giving back. When your business gives back, donates time, money, or product, not only are you helping your local community, but you are also creating a positive image for your company. (Plus, often a tax write off.)

Imagine your business as a brilliant building in Rome, strong and ready to stand the test of time. With these five key nuggets holding you up, your business is destined to thrill all who encounter it for centuries to come.

Your time for personal revolution is now: Are you able, ready, and willing to seize it?
