Marketing gets such a bad name
Thanks to TV shows like Madmen or Shark Tank, marketing can seem like such a sleazy and unsavory thing to spend your time doing. Telemarketers. Advertising agencies. Junk mail. For many of us, these things seem to be aggravating at best and infuriating at worst.
But marketing is actually a glorious thing filled with subtlety and creativity. And behind it all? Relationships. Marketing is the opportunity to build a relationship with your clientele. Also, marketing is an absolute necessity for any business. Without marketing, there is no market. With no market, there are no sales. With no sales, there is no business.
You get the point.
So, how do we market without all the ‘ick’?
Invest in SEO
One of the least intrusive but most effective ways to market your business is to invest in quality SEO. There are lots of online classes you can take, some for free and some for a nominal fee. If you don’t have the time to invest, consider hiring a consultant or a freelancer. However you do it, you need to make this a priority. Over 73% of the current financial decision makers of the world use the Internet to influence their spending patterns. You literally cannot afford to skip this step.
Get Experimental
Don’t be afraid to get wacky! Experimental marketing efforts can flop, but in quality marketing, even a flop can bring positive results. Do something that gets attention and stands out.
Produce content that is relevant
If you have a blog, or you write a news letter, or you do email blasts, one thing is hugely important: IT MUST BE RELEVANT. Don’t just send random and useless information to your clients and customers. Tell them the things that will impact their world. Offer discounts. Save your cute antidotes for your face to face conversations. If you waste your opportunities to reach your clients with relevant content, they will start to ignore you.
Be genuine
Don’t move forward with a marketing campaign if you don’t feel in your gut that it is a quality representation of yourself. Be true to yourself and be genuine with your clients. Forcing an ad or a promotion will come off as phony and turn your clients off.
See? It isn’t that bad and your business is sunk without it. All the profit with none of the “yuck”.
Your time for personal revolution is now: Are you able, ready, and willing to seize it?
